All or nothing

I have been told on occasion that I have an "all or nothing" attitude.
So when I decide to paint my house, you will see war paint on my face,
And I'll be headin' to your house with paint brush in hand.
And I do it with kids around or not. You might think I am crazy to do this.....
BUT I think it adds to the challenge. It is adventurous.
It is like I have to prove that I can do it, despite the absurdness of it all.
I like the kids dodging in and out of the room with blankets in hand barely skimming my finished job.
And when I decide to paint on canvas, you will find not one, not two, but like millions of canvases around the house, strewn out all over the floor in every room, so that I am tripping over them so as to dent the newly painted walls.
So...
when it comes to running, I am the same exact way.
Someone asked me the other day:
"Do you give it your all at every race?"
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
I had a 15km race yesterday.
When we dash out of the start line, something happens.
I no longer reside in my body.
Usually I tell my body what to do.
When I race...My body tells me what to do.
It is like I become a completely different person.
NO FEAR, NO INSECURITY, NO ONE TO IMPRESS BUT THE ROAD.
I can't explain how my legs just move and I don't think about it.
And if I am gonna race, I am not just going to finish.
If I simply cross the line at the end, my purpose for running is finished.
So during the race I chose to focus on beating some men.
It gave me much pleasure to pass three men with three miles to go.
I loved hearing them pant like wildebeests as I edged my way beside them.
Hearing them say half heartedly "Good job" as I passed their egos.
(SOrry, I just LOVE passing men in races)- no, not making passes at men.
I took them down one at a time. (wo)MAN it felt good. Finishing time: 15km-one hour 4 minutes 43sec.
I even blinded them by my hot pink shorts.
And I wonder where Silas gets his personality from-I am not competitive at all.
Sticking like 4 peas up his nose.....cause one is not enough.
Asking for "MORE" when he hasn't even had the first bite of half his bagel.
Not being content with choosing one shirt to wear in the morning, but changing all throughout the day.
Waking up in the morning to a fully NAKED Silas.
Silas grinning ear to ear...
"ALL or NOTHING mama.....ALL or NOTHING."

Great picture of you at the finish! I looked up my picture and I'm looking down at my watch (in shock) as I came through the line. It's quite funny.

You and I are SOOOO similar in that we're "all-or-nothing" people. For me, it certainly makes life exciting around here, but every once in a while it can get me into some trouble.

I am really proud of you and your speed. I can't tell you enough how much I loved watching you come in, first woman, third overall! I wanted to yell, "I KNOW her!!! I KNOW her!!!" Actually, I may have done just that.

Keep at it Lora.

Glad you are back on board...It's always motivational to see what's happening in your life..
I love beating men, does not matter what age...I think I can still do that with my skiing....Yea! I love it when I whistle past some of them.
I'm dying to see your house...I can tell now that painting your house is like a marathon....
Well done.

So funny. I'm thinking that competing is maybe something you and your mother-in-law have in common. Am I wrong? Isn't it great having someone who takes after you?
