He picked out his own outfit, and did his own hair. He asked me to put his tie on for him. For a brief moment, I felt like I was helping him get ready for a date.
This is also the first year that he is wearing shoes without velcro.
Bless those teachers man who are gonna be tying up the laces!
Levi learned to tie them though. He is one determined little boy. It helped that I bought some cool running shoes for him. The cool shoes don't have velcro.... I told him....
Actually they do; I own a pair of brown Rocket Dogs that are velcro, so there goes that theory.
Anyway, I picked up Levi from school yesterday so that we could have our own date.
All the teachers were commenting on how handsome he looked in his tie.
Ok, I have to be honest and say that I am NOT the kind of mom that dresses up my kids to get attention. I don't make them look all preppy with sweaters, and done up hair, and name brands....JUST not me.
So I almost take offense when everyone notices, cause really, I had NO part in it.
BUT it was even better too that Levi was not doing it for others either.
As we passed teachers in the hall they would say their comments and Levi would look at them with this look on his face as if to say "WHY are you noticing me amongst the crowd?"
He was not wanting attention at all. He wanted to dress that way cause HE chose it.
I loved that moment!!!!
On the way home we had a great talk.
He said "MOM, will you love me even if I don't love you?"
I responded by saying "Levi, I will love you no matter what you do."
"I love you soooo much!"
He then said "SHHH; you don't have to say it too loud mom. Don't say that kind of stuff in front of people!"
I laughed for a second.
Levi is growing up.
First ditching the velcro shoes.
Then putting the tie on.
Now he is embarrassed by my words.....
When did I all the sudden become a mom with a 7 year old?
At least he is not asking for the car keys YET.

Happy Birthday to a smart looking little grandson. I'm beginning to wonder who he takes after?
