Today was the Terry Fox Run at Levi's school.
I being a runner, just had to participate with Levi and the rest of the kids.
I got to the school with camera in hand and was greeted by a very happy Levi.
"Are you going to run the whole thing with me mommy?" Levi asks.
"Of course I am." I reply.
We started out on our first lap of the field, and Levi looking somewhat tired asks me:
"Why do we have to do this? Do we have to do another lap?"
"You bet!" I replied.
I explained what Terry Fox did, and how he is such an inspiration to all of us.
I talked about Opa and his "Bionic Leg" (That is what Levi calls it) and the amazing things that opa does. How Opa never gives up. He skies, he hikes, he bikes; Opa does it all!
We have two legs to run, skip and jump. Some people learn to do all this with only one leg!
I explained how amazingly hard it would be to run with just one leg.
I told Levi he was an amazing runner, and that I was so proud of him for giving it his all.
I explained why we brought money donations to the school this week,
and how his thoughtfulness will be appreciated by many.
We talked and we held hands while we ran together.
We did 3 laps total-and everybody at that run heard about it from a very proud Levi.
Levi was so excited that he wanted to do 2 MORE laps at the end of the school day.
We ran together around the field again, Levi telling everyone "I want to do another lap!"
I saw accomplishment radiating from the twinkle in his eye.
I felt pride gripping my heart as he gripped his little hand into mine.
What started out as a half excited attitude to run, turned into an over zealous passion to run.
PASSION.
It is what fueled the fire in Terry Fox's journey-
His unrelenting desire to run with meaning-
To run with purpose.
PURPOSE.
It is what motivates Opa to look at what he CAN do instead of what he can't do.
His unrelenting desire to live life with meaning.
